ABOUT THE THERAPIES

Ayurbalance Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a safe and effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. It works with the layers of membrane (fascia) that lie between everything in our bodies. The fascia stores a huge amount of elements essential to well being, including water & collagen. When restricted it contributes to holding on to trauma.

Ayurbalance Myofascial Release uses conscious touch and refined deep tissue techniques to work on layers of the muscles and fascia. Ayurbalance is an ayurvedic technique which works to restore physical & emotional harmony, towards our basic nature of balance with touch and conscious pressure.

Many patients seek myofascial treatment after losing flexibility or function following an injury or if experiencing ongoing back, shoulder, hip, or virtually pain in any area containing soft tissue. Other conditions treated by myofascial release therapy include carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia and migraines.

ScarWork

Sharon Wheeler’s Scarwork technique involves light touch work integrating scar tissue into the fascial web. It is hugely effective on the visible scar and the adhesions inside the body. It contributes to profound whole body release on physical and emotional levels and is effective on new and old scars, natural and surgical. This technique integrates space to process the journey of the scar, and any trauma or stuck emotions linked to the scar that might be affecting the client.

“With ScarWork, we listen to the body’s pain alerts and adapt our pressure, techniques and angle of touch accordingly; it should feel good for the client. The touch is light, responsive and non-intrusive and has been known to help with a variety of scars, not just their appearance but their underlying effects on the body.

Adhesions stick structures together that would normally glide past each other; this can cause functionality problems and affect posture and energy level, among other symptoms.  With ScarWork, our aim is to soften and change the scar tissue; the light touch approach has been shown by research to create changes at cellular level and this enables deep change in the tissues to take place.

The therapist will assess how the scars and adhesions are affecting your posture and gait, then work not just on the scar but on the surrounding area, keeping the rest of the client covered and warm.”

Deep Tissue

Deep Tissue Massage instigates a greater tension relieving response than a classic massage by concentrating on posterior (deeper) muscles. It uses a mix of classic massage strokes, with increased pressure, typically following the muscle from insertion to origin. The aim is to reduce muscle tension by releasing knots and restoring elasticity. Deep Tissue Massage is also designed to increase blood flow to targeted muscles, kick-starting the body’s natural healing process.

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique that works with universal healing energy to treat the whole person; body, emotions, mind and spirit. It has a profoundly calming effect, including deep peace, security and well-being. It is simple, natural and safe, and is a very powerful complementary therapy to be used alongside other healing modalities. During the session, I will work both with hands on and off, and there is no need to remove clothing.

Mobilisations and Muscle Energy Techniques

Muscle Energy Techniques are a form of osteopathic treatment in which the client’s muscles are actively used on request, from a precisely controlled position in a specific direction against a counterforce. They are used to normalise joint range rather to improve flexibility. Mobilisations involve carefully moving the joint in a specific way to flood the joint with blood flow and synovial fluid, to decrease pain and increase range of movement and joint health.
